It was a repeat for Siesta Beach in Sarasota, Fla., this year, which clinched the No. 2 spot on Dr. Beach’s best beaches in America list.

Coopers Beach in Southhampton, N.Y., was the national winner, a tidy Hamptons town that counts Calvin Klein among its residents. But Florida vacation rental owners shouldn’t be discouraged–Dr. Stephen P. Leatherman throws love to the Sunshine State every year.

In addition to Siesta Beach, Cape Florida State Park in Key Biscayne placed 10th in the rankings, which take 50 criteria into account, from sand softness to views and vistas.

Despite its runner-up status, Siesta Beach doesn’t disappoint on either front. Guests will impressed by the brilliant white powder, soft to the toes. Warm waters assure that all-day swimming is in order, and a crescent-shaped coastline creates the perfect ambiance for long walks.

It’s no shocker that “this beach attracts sand collectors from all over,” according to Dr. Beach himself.

As famous as it is, the city hasn’t inflated its prices for Siesta Key vacation rentals. The one above, for example, is a mere $1,010 a week from June 14 to Sept. 8. The two-bedroom condo comes with a king-sized bed, two doubles, a full kitchen and access to a club room and heated Olympic-sized pool.

What would the same type of property cost in the Hamptons? Or is that like comparing Mercedes to Fords?
